When I started attending events, I admit, I was a bit proactive in introducing myself to other bloggers and handing them our blogger cards. Funny, I know, but back then, I really thought that was the right way to do. Okay, there was some kind of strategy that came with it to make it known that we exist.
After a few more times I did this, I noticed some bloggers were snobs and I distinctly remember a few who looked at me funny like I was doing something wrong. I remember getting all excited about personally meeting a fellow blogger who I’ve been following for a long time, only to know she wasn’t all nice. To that, I say first impressions last.
I hate snobs, especially bloggers who think they’re all that just because they were old-timers, they’ve become popular, or PR and all sorts of brands love to be featured on their blogs. When I got that treatment from those bloggers I mentioned in the above paragraph, I told myself that I will NEVER treat anyone the same way they treated me and how I saw them treat other bloggers.
Even when I got to know some of them a little more, I didn’t care about giving them the chance to be friends with me. I can say that more bloggers know me now and, usually, at events, people walk up to me to introduce themselves. Though I hate to admit that I’m not good with names, I appreciate it a lot that they take the time to come up to me and say hi. 🙂
The most common feedback I get from these bloggers is they thought I was a snob, and they were extremely glad I wasn’t in real life. There were some who still said I looked stiff. The truth is, I’m not really fond of smiling. You don’t see me smiling a lot, even in photos. I’m not the cheery kind. BUT, that doesn’t mean I’m rude or I get all stuckup when I meet other people. 😀 I share this with my brother. We still do our best to smile when we’re introduced ’cause that’s the nice and polite way to do.
I also stopped giving away blogger cards. I only have a few prepared for PRs and executives I meet. It’s because I believe there’s a much higher chance they’ll keep our cards for future reference than bloggers. Besides, we already have a couple of online forums on Facebook for every blogger to get to know each other.
I wish I can print out better blogger cards though. My 2 printers have been problematic lately. Plus, I want thicker paper for my blogger cards. My printers can only feed as thick as those velum boards I used before. I’m thinking of giving plastic cards to those really important people so they would last longer, but that’s kinda expensive. I’ve seen a couple of business card printing sites so I might try their service real soon.
I honestly thought you were masungit when I saw you at the Blog Awards hehe.. But then It turned out you’re one of the nicest bloggers I’ve met.
🙂
Truth be told, Im fortunate that I haven’t met any arrogant ones yet! But let’s see.. I haven’t been out yet much either though..
I still haven’t had blogger calling cards made.. I’ve still been contemplating if I should.. Wouldn’t know who I’d give it to hehe..
@The Pickiest Eater, kasi you’re the Pickiest Eater. If you’re one of the regular bloggers, you might have gotten a different treatment. 🙂
And you’re one of the coolest and nicest bloggers I’ve met din. Hope to see you again very soon! 🙂
